Freedom (SID composer)
Italian SID composer (real name not given in the source) whose job "deals with mechanics"; first tune in 2005 in Odin Tracker on vice, since then a goattracker user, and the musician of the C64 conversion of Pushover after tsm left the project (source: s-sidin13-tsm-freedom-interview).
Facts#
- A C64 as a birthday present in late 1992; BASIC and small music experiments as a child; in SID music "because of nostalgia" for loading and game tunes, and for the challenge: "You should be able to make the listener believe that there are more than just 3 voices" (channel-interleaving).
- Left Odin Tracker for "its strange way of handling filters" and inefficient routines ("too much rasterlines"); GoatTracker "is easy, it is powerful, very efficient and it comes with a good documentation"; might try a native editor like JCH's; "absolutely" prefers tracker-style editors.
- Prefers three analogue voices to samples, but made an unreleased four-channel tune in Pollytracker; uses emulators for lack of room, the real machine for demos.
- Prefers the 8580 (sid): "way too open filters but … cleaner waveforms and it has less noise", and no click when the filter type changes, "This makes it possible to change filter type on an instrument while a note is being played"; loves the
