A fifteen-page cheat sheet for SID-Wizard 1.6: one page per screen or table with the value schemes, then key tables that list every C64 key next to its vice equivalent, and four reference tables (decimal ↔ signed ↔ hex, arp-column absolute notes, ADSR timings, tempo → BPM for PAL and NTSC). It shipped in the 1.7 distribution's manual folder beside Creating Chiptunes with SID-Wizard (s-witchmaster-creating-chiptunes-with-sid-wizard).

Key claims#

  • UI: info area with raster time, playback time, auto-advance, pulse-width meter, cutoff meter and oscilloscope; F5 patterns, C=+F5 chord table, F6 orderlist, C=+F7 tempo-program table, F7 instruments; chords are stored separately "so you don't have to create different instruments for different chords".
  • WF-ARP-DT table: WF $00–$0F = repeat only the arp/detune columns for 1–16 frames without a waveform change; $10–$FD = waveform/control byte; $FE jump (a position ≥ $40 jumps to itself); $FF END (shown, not typed). Waveform nybble $1 triangle, $2 saw, $4 pulse ("you need to insert at least one row in the PULSE table"), $8 noise (never combined); control nybble $1 gate, $2 sync, $4 ring, $8 test.   • Pulse table: $8x–$Fx xx sets the 12-bit width ($000/$FFF = silent DC, $800 = square; the first nybble only has to be $8–$F); $00–$7F xx adds signed xx that many times (use = to negate); $FE jump; $FF end. Filter table: $8r–$Fr xx — band $8 off, $9 low-pass, $B low+band, $C high-pass, $D low+high, $E band+high, $F all (band-pass alone, $A, is missing from this list but present in the tutorial s-chipmusic-c64-music-for-dummies); resonance r ($F not allowed with band $F because $FF is END); cutoff $00–$FF ≈ 30 Hz–10 kHz; sweeps as in the pulse table.

Practical takeaways#

The complete 1.6 key map with VICE equivalents (the manual on sid-wizard lists only the most-used keys), the repeat-row and chord-speed-override tricks in the WF column, the BPM lookup, and the two effect numbers that changed between 1.6 and 1.8 ($04 ≥ $F0 vs $09 for the WF-ARP jump; $0F shift vs set).
