The wiki uses it only to confirm or annotate claims that primary sources make; anything it alone supports is marked as such on the pages that cite it.

- History: "Designed by Bob Yannes at MOS Technology in 1981", "a synthesizer-on-a-chip"; Yannes "later co-founded Ensoniq". Two versions: the 6581, "introduced with the first C64 in 1982", and the 8580, "which appeared in 1987 with later motherboard revisions". Compare: the wiki's intro on sid dates the chip to the 1982 datasheet (s-mos-6581-datasheet) and puts the 8580 in 1986 (s-chordian-sf2-instruments: "8580 (1986, white 64C)") — a disagreement recorded on sid; the Yannes interview being ingested in parallel should settle the design date.
