Dutch programmer, author of the MikMod and MikIT module players; the single source for this page is his TraxWeekly interview of June 1997 (source: s-tw103-interview-mikmak).

Facts#

  • Tegelen, the Netherlands; 25 in June 1997; ex-HardCode '95, groupless.
  • Coding since BASIC on an Atari 800XL; Amiga 68000 assembly from about 1989, which made him "obsessed with modplaying"; first PC production the BBS intro shroom.exe with his own music.
  • MikMod (older code) and MikIT (1997, aimed at "most popular mod formats", with a DOS library for musicdisks planned); C style learned from GifLib's author.
  • Uses impulse-tracker; used scream-tracker-3 in 1997 for S3M replay research (s3m-format); credits IT with making tracked music better than in 1995.
  • Predicted for 1999: Windows-only demos on DirectX/OpenGL and 3D hardware, MP3 releases replacing modules (tracker-scene-history); against banning non-sceners from #trax.

To verify#

  • (unverified) MikMod continued as the open-source library libmikmod, used by many later players and games.
