Luv Kohli
Co-founder, with his brother Manu, of the two-member Virginia group Empyrean; interviewed by DennisC for traxweekly's Faces in the Crowd in October 1995 after about a year of releases. Facts#
- Real name, no alias. No instrument; influences Metallica and Rush, and "the standard" tracked names — necros, purple-motion, skaven, C.C.Catch, Ryan Cramer. Music "of a sorrowful nature", more background than melody by his own account.
- Tracker lineage: MODEdit v2.00 → v3.00 → Whacker Tracker → the original FastTracker → Scream Tracker 3.21; found ST3 easier but conceded FT2's features and sound quality.
- Distribution by BBS: The Dream City (Virginia) and Ryan Cramer's Data Connection; "Beyond Chaos" (
BEYONDCH.ZIP) on ftp.cdrom.com; all Empyrean songs on the Freedom data CD. - Ripping is fine with permission and credit; resolved to keep a record of where each sample came from after losing track of his own collection (see sample-ripping).
- Banned from #trax while on AOL; credits epinicion and Aim Higher with opening the scene to new faces.
- Placed 9th as "LuvK" in 20mc #8 (28 October 1995) (source: s-tw032-20-minute-chip-compo).
