Jeroen Kimmel (Red)

Dutch scener of The Judges who in 1986 "becomes the first scener to create his own music, in Rob Hubbard's player" — SIDwave's Red Hubbard — before the first scene-written drivers of 1987 (source: s-recollection-brief-history-of-sid; hubbard-player, tracker-scene-history). By 1989 he had a player of his own, whose Turbo Assembler source survives (source: s-realdmx-fredgray-kimmel-whittaker).

Facts#

  • "Red's music player (C) 1989 J.Kimmel": Dutch labels (stem, snelheid, stuk, accoorden), a note event every 3 frames, sequences of pattern words with transpose markers, patterns of note, (instrument << 5 | duration) pairs, and a separate 8-byte instrument table per voice with a flag byte for waveform switching, glide, filter sweep, two vibrato tables and three drum modes that play fixed-pitch noise/triangle for the first frames of a note before restoring the real waveform — the Hubbard-style drum, on his own structure (source: s-realdmx-fredgray-kimmel-whittaker).
  • The surviving test tune is incomplete: dmx87 notes "there's a bass but inaudible"; the file masks voice 3 off and gives voice 1's bass a zero pulse width (source: s-realdmx-fredgray-kimmel-whittaker).
  • SIDId: Jeroen_Kimmel (source: s-sidid-player-list).
