The sample tab of openmpt: formats, the edit toolbar, tuning per format, loops and sustain loops, auto-vibrato, time-stretching, the drawing and resizing tools that make chip samples, and the OPL (AdLib) FM instrument editor for S3M and MPTM.

  • Loads Amiga IFF (8SVX / 16SVX / MAUD), AIFF, AU, SNES BRR, CAF, FLAC, ITS, MP3, Opus, Ogg, GUS PAT, RAW, S3I (Scream Tracker samples and OPL instruments), SBI, W64, WAV, XI and anything Windows Media Foundation decodes; saves WAV, FLAC, IFF, S3I, RAW. Each operator: ADSR (attack, decay, sustain level, release, "Sustain Sound" hold), volume, tremolo (1 dB), key scaling of envelope and level, frequency multiplier 0.5–15, vibrato (7 cents); the Modulator "can be understood as an equivalent to the filter in an analog synthesizer — the louder the Modulator, the more open the filter is"; feedback gives "rich sounds ranging from metallic to noise". Volume commands scale the carrier in FM mode; cutoff commands scale the modulator; OPL volume is logarithmic — "reducing the volume by 8 units halves it".
