Author of ModPlugin, "originally developed in the mid-90s … as a plugin for Internet browsers to listen to tracked music files", and from it ModPlug Player and ModPlug Tracker — "the first Windows-based tracker" — which became open source in 2004 and continues as openmpt (sources: s-openmpt-manual-about-openmpt, s-schism-tracker-wiki). ModPlug Tracker alpha 5 dates from 1998-01-13 (influenced by FastTracker 2.08 and Impulse Tracker 2.14), 1.09 from 2000 and 1.16 from 2001-11-21; his 1.16 player code is also the engine under schism-tracker (source: s-tracker-history-notes).

  • mental-floss (February 1998) had asked him (olivierl@jps.net) for "Denon-CD player style mixing controls" — cueing and mixing in a player program, for playing tracked music live; the answer was that "the tracker program is a priority" (source: s-tw119-interview-mental-floss; see live-tracking).
