Jugi (Jukka Kaartinen)
Musician of the Finnish demogroup Complex (founded 1989; PC division since The Party 1993) and composer of Dope, the winning demo of The Gathering 1995. The single source for this page is his TraxWeekly interview of May 1995 (source: s-tw010-interview-jugi).

- Physics/computer-science student in Jyväskylä, 22 in 1995; joined Complex in 1990, first demo-compo win in 1991.
- Thirteen years of keyboard, no classical training; piano is his instrument, and he writes modules only when a demo needs them: the tracker is "nice for a simple rhythm machine" but too low in resolution for the grooves and expression he wants — "you can't really 'play' with mods".
- Workflow: chords worked out on a keyboard go into the tracker first, then a melody, then sounds and production; samples from CDs, synths, rips, a custom Amiga sampler, sample CDs.
- His advice to newcomers (breaks, no long sessions, do not copy modules, copy a favourite CD to learn, learn an instrument and to sing, compare your work with real records) is on tracking-workflow.
- populus (June 1995) names Jugi, with Moby (Frederic) and HMW (Zane), as an example of the melodic tracked music that was "disappearing rapidly" under the techno flood (source: s-tw016-interview-populus).
