The SID Homepage (sidmusic.org)
andreas-varga's 1990s website about the sid — the place where the designer of the chip, bob-yannes, first learned that programs like SIDPLAY and PlaySID existed ("I only recently became aware of them (through your website)") and answered Varga's questions by e-mail in August 1996 (source: s-sidmusic-yannes-interview). It also collected magazine interviews with the C64 composers and technical pages on the chip. In 2026 the site's root redirects to a SIDPLAY page while the sid/ pages still serve; the wiki's copies are in raw/sidmusic/ (fetch notes in raw/sources.md).
What it hosts#
- The Yannes interview (
yannes.html, "Last updated Aug 30 1996") — s-sidmusic-yannes-interview: design goals, the chip's internals, the filter, Ensoniq. - Composer interviews reprinted from commodore-zone, Happy Computer and 64'er: jeroen-tel (s-sidmusic-jeroen-tel-interviews), martin-galway (s-sidmusic-galway-interviews), rob-hubbard (s-sidmusic-hubbard-interviews).
- "The creation of the SID chip" by Christer Rindeblad (
sidcreate.html) — s-sidmusic-creation-of-the-sid-chip: project dates, Yannes's team, the inaccurate spec. - Technical pages (per the fetch notes in
raw/sources.md): asger-alstrup's examinations of the SID's triangle and noise waveforms by register dump (sidtech4.html,sidtech5.html, HTML by Varga — ingested as s-sidmusic-alstrup-waveform-examinations); a transcription of the 6581 datasheet / Appendix O of the c64-programmers-reference-guide (sidtech1–3.html, the same text the wiki has from s-mos-6581-datasheet); and the SID patent (patent.html, not fetched).
