Probe Software

The English developer that took jeroen-tel from maniacs-of-noise into full-time work — "i'm moving to England, because i'm working at Probe Software now" (64'er, 3/91) — and one of charles-deenen's remembered freelance clients (sources: s-sidmusic-jeroen-tel-interviews, s-c64com-charles-deenen-interview).

Facts#

  • Preferred Tel's music "exclusively for their C64 games"; at eighteen he signed a six-month in-house contract as "Computer Audio Programmer" (with Nintendo/Sega work too), then went freelance from the Netherlands with regular London trips (source: s-domination01-jeroen-tel-interview).
  • VGMPF dates Tel's work for Probe from January 1988 (NES, Master System …) until July 1993 (source: s-vgmpf-maniacs-of-noise).
  • The 1997 Commodore Zone interview has MoN ending as a two-man company when Deenen was asked in-house at Interplay and Tel was offered a job at Probe Software Limited — "We took both jobs. Somehow that's too bad." (source: s-sidmusic-jeroen-tel-interviews).
  • The NES RoboCop 3 was done "one night at Probe's headquarters in 1991", before the C64 version (source: s-vgmpf-maniacs-of-noise).
  • In Deenen's remembered freelance client list alongside hewson, Firebird, Dynamix, U.S. Gold, Interplay and 21st Century Entertainment (source: s-c64com-charles-deenen-interview).
